We're looking for a Journeyperson Maintenance Electrician who knows how to track down a fault fast, fix it right the first time, and keep our materials processing equipment running safely.
At Southland Trailers, we're not looking for someone who just swaps parts until a machine starts again. We want a tradesperson who finds the root cause, takes ownership of the equipment, and looks for better ways to keep it running.
What You'll Be Doing
- Troubleshooting & Repair: Diagnose and fix electrical, controls, hydraulic and mechanical problems on press brakes, sheet and tube lasers, plasma tables and plant equipment.
- Preventive Maintenance: Complete PM, lubrication and inspection routes that catch problems before they become breakdowns.
- Root Cause & Reliability: Find out why equipment failed, fix it for good, and recommend improvements that cut downtime.
- Plant Air & Utilities: Service rotary screw compressors, dryers and air systems, and track down air leaks.
- Fabrication & Installs: Weld, fabricate and machine replacement parts, and install, relocate and level new equipment.
- Safety & Records: Follow lockout, hot work and guarding procedures every time, and log all work orders and parts in our maintenance system.
- Mentoring: Share your knowledge with apprentices, operators and the rest of the maintenance team.
What Makes You a Great Fit
- You hold a valid Alberta Journeyperson Electrician certificate. Red Seal is an asset.
- You have industrial maintenance experience, ideally on materials processing equipment in a manufacturing plant.
- You're strong at troubleshooting motors, drives, PLC I/O and safety circuits, and comfortable with hydraulics and pneumatics.
- You can read electrical, hydraulic and mechanical schematics, and you have welding, fabrication and basic machining skills.
- You work well on your own, prioritize breakdowns under pressure, and communicate clearly with production.
- You're comfortable in a plant environment, with overtime, call-ins and weekend shutdowns when needed.
- You never cut corners on safety, even when the line is waiting.
