Signed spaces and paid time

Do not stay beyond paid time or the kiosk or sign maximum. Park within the designated space. Signed private land requires the owner’s consent. Controlled residential zones have their own permits.

Alley parking is only allowed without obstructing traffic while actively loading or unloading goods. Unattached trailers cannot be left on City roads. Occupancy trailers have a 48-hour road-parking limit. Vehicles over six metres long cannot park unless signs allow them.

Clearances listed by the City

The City lists five-metre clearances from marked crosswalks, stop or yield signs and fire hydrants. Keep at least 1.5 metres from garage, driveway or lane access. Do not double park or park where a sign prohibits it.

Follow the City’s linked Traffic Safety Act information for the complete rule rather than treating these common offences as every legal restriction. The page’s wording on wheel-to-curb positioning is awkward; this guide avoids restating an unclear sentence as a new rule.

Complaints and enforcement

Call 311 for parking complaints weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Callers must provide details and personal information. City enforcement uses licence-plate technology to compare vehicles with paid-parking records.

Municipal and provincial parking tickets have different penalty rules. City traffic-bylaw penalties can be reduced when received within ten days, while the City says provincial offences do not have those reductions. Read the issuing authority on your ticket.
